Prayer for Caregivers

Thank You, God, for all the people who care for the sick, the injured, the chronically ill, the disabled, or the dying.  Many have made this work their career.  Many others – such as spouses, parents, adult children, other relatives and friends – have accepted the burden of caregiving out of love.  Strengthen them as they go about their tiring, often difficult work.  Comfort them when they become worried.  Lighten their load and give them needed rest.  Bring them moments of joy through their work.  And let them feel Your loving arms and compassion to those they serve.  Bless them abundantly, Lord, and give them peace.  Amen.

Why Try a Caregiver's Support Group?

Where else can I say how I feel and have "fellow travelers" understand?

You mean I'm not the only one in the world going through this?

I can be angry at fate's blows, and no one says, "you shouldn't feel that way."

This group is my link to the outside world, adult conversation, and practical tips.

Only these people know why I can't do this myself.

I never suspected there were so many "right" ways to get Dad into the tub.

Who would have thought that I would be laughing at the dark and crazy things that happen to me?

I realized I was out without him, and I didn't have to be guilty about it.

Compared to these people, I'm doing rather well.  Things could be a lot worse.

These folks know how to pace themselved... and go the distance.

My family is totally disfunctional... the group is the family I always wanted.

Compassion, laughs and camraderie - that's why I keep coming back.

I'm an information junkie - these people know every advance and good deal.

I know we can't cure her mother, but I'm here because I know y'all can do something for my wife.

Only her can I whisper, "Will I be next?"

Until I came here, I felt like I was always letting her down and she wouldn't have let me down.

I never thought I would hear some dignified older lady say, "Poop is the enemy".

I can see the headlines now - "MAN JOINS SUPPORT GROUP... AND LIVES"

This is the closest I have come to a healing spiritual experience.

He, too, must cross in the twilight dim
Good friend, I'm building the bridge for him.

A North Caroline Information & Assistance Tolkit - for Family Caregivers

Our Caregivers’ Support Group is open to anyone who is a Caregiver to a family or friend. We are a place to share and support one another in the challenges with being a Caregiver. One of the greatest stressors in the life of a Caregiver is the lack of emotional support. We help meet that need. If you know of anyone who is in the Caregiver role, please encourage them to join us. It is through each of our members that we learn and grow.

Our Caregivers’ Support Group is held at The Friendship Center. We ask that you wear a mask and enter through our Bus Entry (right side of the building). Denise will meet you there to do Covid Screening (similar to the screening done in the entryway of clinics).

Our Caregiver’s Support Group’s goal is to provide emotional support, information and resources to anyone who is a caregiver.  If you know of anyone in this role, please share this information with them.  You may be their only outlet to find out about this much needed support system.  If you need someone to help watch your loved one, so that you can attend our meeting, contact The Friendship Center at 815-369-2690 and ask for Denise.

Please note: In case of bad weather, our meetings will be cancelled.  We will try to follow the local school closings.  However, if road conditions are not good, please do not risk travelling.
